What sells at Austin auctions

Austin gallery sales carry fine art, antiques and estate jewelry, with Hill Country estates feeding the calendar.

Common sale types: estate auctions, online timed auctions, gallery catalog sales and estate sales.

Buying tips for Austin auctions

• Buyer's premium. Most houses add a buyer's premium (a percentage of the hammer price) and sometimes an online-bidding fee. Put the total, plus any sales tax, into your max bid.
• Preview days. Go to preview or ask for condition photos. Look for repairs, chips, missing parts and replaced hardware.
• Before you bid. Read the terms: payment methods, pickup dates and shipping. Many sales are "as is, where is" with no returns.
• Know your stop. Set a max for each lot before the sale and keep to it; live bidding moves fast.
• Local note. Check pickup location; some lots are held off-site at the estate rather than at the gallery.

Bid with a plan: our Auction Price Guide

An Auction Price Guide gives you an estimated value, recent sold prices and your max bid for every lot you pick, so you know where to stop before the bidding starts. We do the research; you just bring the sale link.
